I’m Judy Flanagan, a landscape artist working in oils and acrylics from my home studio in Hornsea. The wide skies, shifting light, and ever-changing coastlines of Yorkshire have long been a source of inspiration, while travel to new places continually shapes my palette and perspective.
I am drawn to wide open spaces—coastlines, moorlands, meadows, and woodlands—where light, weather, and the seasons influence the colours, atmosphere, and textures around me. Each landscape evokes different emotions, and I aim to translate those fleeting, personal experiences into my paintings.
My process is layered and tactile. Working en plein air or in the studio, I build colour, texture, and depth to capture not the exact likeness of a place, but the essence of a memory—the hush of mist, the glow of dusk, or the drama of a shifting sky.
Through my work, I hope to invite viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world. Whether a painting evokes nostalgia, calm, or wonder, my aim is for each piece to create a lasting emotional connection.
